Look at Me, I'm in Kindergarten, Can't you See

Today was Hailey's Kindergarten Program.
It was super sweet to see the girls find each other, get super excited, then wrap their arms around each other to hug.  We made our way to our seats and soon the Kindergarteners marched in.
I always get so choked up at these events.  I think I am going to be fine but it never fails.  Once those adorable little things start singing I lose it.  My eyes were dripping for most of the show.
I think during those moments I feel a huge sense of pride.  I am so proud of my girls and at times feel so blessed that they are healthy and happy. During these shows it also reminds me that each day they have a job.  Just like I go to work and do my thing, they have this whole little life that they take part in.  They spend a huge part of their day away from me.  Learning from others and making friends.
I also feel so thankful that there are people that dedicate their life to helping my child develop.  There is a whole school full of grown ups making sure my child learns, making sure she uses her manners, keeping her safe.
The kids are so fun to watch.  At this age they are still so excited and happy to be performing for their parents.  They are all so animated and none of them are embarrassed to be singing or dancing on stage.  Not a single one looks like they are bored or that they don't want to be there.
Our last Kindergarten program, makes me sort of sad.

Two Steps

I think I finally made a decision regarding the color of our new buffet.
Brian is pretty much done which means it's my turn.
After days and days and days and tons of texts and snapchats to my friends asking for advice, the decision has been made.  I am going to stain the piece first and then paint the blue over it.

First Cut of the Year

First cut of the year- yikes, this is going to take a while.
Not warm enough for everyone to swim but won't stop us from chillin' down by the lake.
I love when cabin season starts!  It can be a lot of work each weekend, packing up, feeling like we are never home enough to just enjoy some downtime but you can not underestimate family time!

My sisters and the girls turned on some old home movies today.
This is Emma.  Putting on a show for anyone that would watch.
My younger sisters used to video tape themselves for hours and hours.
Kim was usually the star of the show- that girl is hilarious!

Snuggle Buddies

Cabin days are back!
Tonight I was snuggling with the baby and Hannah needed to be with us.
Within just a few minutes they were both fast asleep.
Her and Hailey both can not get enough of this little one.  We are all obsessed but understand that we all need to take turns.  These two, being that they are small and compact they just follow this little guy around.  If you are the lucky person to be able to hold him, just know that you automatically get them as well.  Once he is less fragile and these girls get the go ahead to hold him and pick him up, he will never get put down.  It makes my heart so full!

Track and Field 2016

Today was Track and Field Day!

2nd graders wear blue, Kindergartners wear yellow.
Once again, the weather was perfect and the energy from the kids and teachers made for a very enjoyable day.

Hanah with her lunch buddies.  These girls decided to tell each other something they liked about each other while they were eating.  Although some of them had a hard time and got real shy, I was pretty impressed to hear the things they came up with.  "I love your laugh.  I like your hair.  I admire how brave you are. You are a good friend.  You are funny.  You are smart."

Two peas....Hannah and Mrs Dau each getting massages between events.

Hailey and her crew!

I was walking between events, switching off every other hour with the girls.  When I came back to find Hannah and her group I noticed that she was with Mrs Dau, standing along the track cheering on the older kids as they ran by.  It was the sweetest thing.  They were shouting "You can do it!  Keep going!  You got this!"

Hailey and Mrs Rootes.  I got to eat lunch with both girls today.  I loved having picnics with each of them and their friends and loved that they liked having me there (I don't embarrass them yet!)

And it wouldn't be a successful day at Track and Field without frying.
It's always the first burn of the year and even though I know it's not good for me, I love the first burn of the season.  It's so bad for my skin but the feeling of that first sun-kiss, it's a sure sign that summer is on it's way!  (Relax- it looks worse than it feels!)

Feeling Blue

In March while we were shopping for bedroom furniture we came across a sideboard that we loved.
It was from HOM and was the exactly the type of design that I was thinking about for the dining room wall.  I have never been too sure about putting something against that wall but knew that it would seem too empty if it was left so it would only be a matter of time.
2 months later and I am still thinking about that piece.
I sent the link to Brian and asked if we could think about making this out of pallet wood.
The dreaded 'what's your plan for the finish' question came up and as always I hadn't gotten that far yet.  Katie and I were chatting about it and she mentioned that it would look cool to have a statement piece there.  "Have you ever thought about painting it a color?"
Honestly I hadn't until she brought it up but then at that moment I was pretty
sure paint was the way to go.
Then you know the rest.....multiple trips, tons of swatches, lots of texts asking for advice.

I am pretty settled on some type of blue.
I like the idea of a chalk paint.  I also think that staining it first and then sanding away some of paint might look pretty cool.  Brian is almost done so I need to start experimenting soon.

Brian laid a tape template out on the floor.  Just to make sure it wasn't sticking out too far and also to train the family that there would soon be something there.

Just testing out the colors :-)  Don't judge.

Mr & Mrs Turner

Today Rob and Denise got married.  They had a small ceremony with just immediate family and then everyone was invited to the pavilions at Bunker for a reception.
It was a gorgeous day!  Sunny and perfect.

As expected the Parmleys shut the place down and were the last to leave-
 did you expect anything else?

We got some great family photos!  Pretty sure this full family picture will make the Christmas card this year, it's a good one!

Let there be light!

Since buying this house I have learned to appreciate when people have nice things.  I appreciate their decorating, I appreciate the details they put into making their house feel like a home.
I suck at this.
Now that I have two nightstands and a new bed, I wanted to have some lamps.
I have never bought a table lamp.  I have purchased floor lamps for apartments that had no overhead lights but never have I ever purchased a table lamp.
I figured it couldn't be too hard, there are lamps everywhere!
Ummm......I made multiple trips to the store.
Multiple.
This lamp below I ordered online and went to the store to pick it up.
As soon as the woman brought it out of the backroom for me to load it in my cart I just informed her to leave it there and make the return instead.  Do you see the woman back there?!  That's right, you can't.  This lamp is so large that it hid a human!  Ugh.

After multiple trips to multiple stores, many times checking the same store out more than once.
Purchasing 6 different lamps and returning all of them I finally found them.
These were purchased at Home Goods and instead of doing what I normally do: take a picture, think about it for weeks, go back and forth about should I or shouldn't I and then finally making a decision only to learn that they are gone, I purchased them.  There.  I did it.  Just like a grown up.

And it paid off!  These are perfect!  I love them and can not WAIT to use my lamps!!!

How Many is Too Many?

I have been trying to find a solution for my jewelry since we moved in.
I have had a few ideas about hanging it in my closet in different ways.
I have thought about asking Brian to build me something but couldn't really find anything that made sense and didn't want yet another piece of furniture to find a place for.
Then while at Target I came across some drawer trays.  Two of them side by side fit into the drawer perfectly!  They even stack on top of each other.
I finally have a solution!  I think I can live with this one.

He's amazing. Truly amazing.

Me:  "Hey Hon- I'd love a shelf for the bathroom.  I'd like to do something a little different.  I saw a few pics online where the shelf was off set."
Brian: leaves to the garage to clean up.
*pound, pound, pound, door opens*
Brian: "Like this?"
Me:  "Ummm, yes.  Exactly."
A few coats of stain and MAGIC!

Honey, I Shrunk the Room

We carried the new furniture into the house tonight.  It fits the room so much better than our old-teeny-tiny stuff and it is so nice to finally have some adult sized furniture.
We still have plenty of space but our room definitely looks smaller since we added in a king sized bed and new dressers and nightstands.
I am happy with the way it turned out.  I absolutely love the glass knobs!
In hindsight, I wish I wouldn't have sanded it so much, in some areas it looks a little spotted or too zebra-like but overall I am happy.  Pictures bring out the two tones so much more with the lighting and flash and even though it's noticeable in person, it's much less obvious.
I am not sure if I have mentioned this lately but I am SOOOOOO lucky!  Brian is amazing when it comes to bringing my vision to life and he does such nice, quality work.  This stuff is PERFECT!

Twinsie Sleepover

Kiley came over for a sleepover and the girls were so excited that they had clothes to match her this morning when they got dressed.  I love that the girls have stayed in touch with each other even though we don't talk to Gretchen or Troy as much as we should or would like to.
The girls are so stink' cute!

I did it!

It wasn't easy but I did it.  I made a decision and started staining the furniture.
I decided to stain it dark and then sand some of the finish away to give it a more distressed look.
I am not sure it was exactly what I was looking for and in many areas I got carried away with the sanding so in some spots it looks a little zebra-y but overall I am real happy with how it is turning out.  I like how the lighter spots gives the furniture character and texture.

Softball Selfie

While I was coaching Hannah's team tonight Hailey got a hold of my phone.
I found about 10 minutes worth of videos and lots and lots of pictures.
This was by far the best one :-)

And Gone!

Hailey's other top tooth came out today!
YAY!  I love when they have the toothless grin- so cute!
